To escape her grandfather's arranged marriage, Mu Qingwan locks herself in a villa with her best friend Jiang Shiyao and bodyguard Liu Hong, intending to give her fiancé the cold shoulder. Unexpectedly, Chu Xiu, who claims to be her fiancé, appears out of nowhere. Chu Xiu provocatively "judges" Mu Qingwan, deliberately provoking her, leading to a heated verbal confrontation upon their first meeting. As Mu Qingwan tries to kick him out, Chu Xiu shifts the decision of breaking off the engagement to Mu Qingwan's grandfather, putting her in a dilemma. The episode opens with a fierce conflict between the male lead, Chu Xiu, and the female lead, Mu Qingwan, over their arranged marriage. Both express their unwillingness to wed. Mu Qingwan's grandfather, in an effort to push the marriage through, first deliberately misinterprets their intentions, then feigns a heart attack and spits blood, using his life as a threat. This forces the filial Mu Qingwan to tearfully agree to register their marriage. Just as Grandpa Mu's scheme is about to succeed, Chu Xiu, who had been watching coldly, suddenly stands up and exposes the grandfather's act. Through flashbacks, the episode reveals Chu Xiu's painful childhood experience of witnessing his family's slaughter, laying the groundwork for his revenge motive.

To fulfill the dying wish of her gravely ill grandfather, Mu Qingwan, president of the Mu Group, marries Chu Xiu, her grandfather's savior. However, this is merely a one-year contractual marriage, with both parties agreeing to a marriage in name only. Mu Qingwan agrees to pay Chu Xiu 500,000 yuan monthly as compensation. Each has their own agenda; Chu Xiu intends to repay his debt of gratitude and settle past karmic ties. After registering their marriage, they head to the company, where they encounter her suitor, Zhang Qingliang, ostentatiously proposing. Upon witnessing this, Chu Xiu directly drives his car into the proposal scene, forcefully asserting his claim and astonishing everyone present.
