Avery Hess is a hardcore homebody and diehard fan whose daily life revolves around work and obsessively supporting her idol Owen Norman—voting, ranking, and spending over a million dollars on his behalf. She finally earns the chance to present flowers to Owen at a fan meeting, but when she steps on stage, he recoils in disgust at her weight, shoves her away, and she falls off the platform. In her final moments, the man she adored never even glances at her. Avery awakens from darkness to find herself transported into the body of a similarly named and equally overweight concubine in ancient times, where the dying woman’s memories flood her mind—revealing that she was murdered by Prince Luis Norman.

To make the suspicious Emperor believe her, Chu Ying forces him to drink the aphrodisiac wine and summons the imperial physician to check his pulse, allowing the Emperor to experience a "happy pulse" himself. At this point, the Empress Dowager and Ye Mingli, to cover up their crimes, arrange for the palace maid who administered the drug to "commit suicide" as a scapegoat. Although the Emperor decrees Chu Ying innocent, she knows this is merely a tactic of her enemies to sacrifice a pawn. Determined to gain the Emperor's trust, she vows to seek revenge on the Empress Dowager, Ye Mingli, and others.
