Researcher Lu Yunzheng stumbles upon Xu Zhuoning being cornered by a group of thugs led by their boss. To save Xu Zhuoning, Lu Yunzheng steps forward and, in a moment of quick thinking, pretends a blank USB drive contains top-secret national research data. He then engineers a situation where the thugs "crush" it, successfully scaring them away with threats of "treason" and a staged call to the police. Impressed by Lu Yunzheng's wit and charm, Xu Zhuoning develops feelings for him and promises to repay his kindness. Lu Yunzheng seizes the opportunity, proposing that Xu Zhuoning repay him by marrying him, catching her completely off guard.

Xu Zhuoning, undeterred, retaliates forcefully, pushing Chen Ying into the water. Just as the conflict escalates, Lu Yunzheng, the Lu matriarch, and others arrive at the scene.
