Years ago, Chen Yaozu, the patriarch of the Chen family, abandoned a very young Chen Liangyu on a rainy night in order to protect the family's secret—suspected to be related to the Phoenix Blood—and to wholeheartedly cultivate his grandson, Chen Feng. To help her daughter escape the family's control, her mother, Chu Zhaoyi, forced herself to drive her away with harsh words, which resulted in the young Chen Liangyu being kidnapped by mysterious forces by the river. Years later, Chu Zhaoyi and Chen Kaijia return to the old place and find their daughter's first-year jade pendant, consumed with grief.
