Su Jiani was invited to a graduation party by her deskmate, Nuannuan, who assured her that her secret crush, Chi Yu, would not be attending as he was out of province on business, which relieved Su Jiani enough to agree to go. At the party, classmates expressed confusion as to why Su Jiani chose Suzhou University instead of following Chi Yu to Tsinghua University. Su Jiani explained it was to take care of her elderly grandfather and to inherit the family's medical clinic in the future. Meanwhile, Chi Yu's friend, Zhou Luoxi, who was also at the party, informed Chi Yu about Su Jiani's situation by sending him photos taken by Nuannuan. Although Chi Yu claimed to be busy in a meeting, he immediately changed his mind after seeing Su Jiani. He forcefully intervened via a video call, declaring his protection over Su Jiani, and ordered Zhou Luoxi to stall her while he rushed over.
