At the wedding of Fengcheng warlord Li Hanzheng and his seventh concubine Ye Zhilan, a ragged young girl calling herself "Mianbao" bursts in, claiming Li Hanzheng is her father and presenting a pocket watch as proof. Li Hanzheng, who has been without a son for years, is skeptical but intrigued. Chairman Xie of the Chamber of Commerce mocks Li Hanzheng for his lack of an heir and calls Mianbao a fraud. Mianbao then displays astonishing fortune-telling abilities, not only predicting Chairman Xie's childless fate but also accurately foretelling a fire at his home that will lead to financial ruin at "the second quarter past the hour of the snake." Just as disbelief lingers, a panicked servant from the Xie mansion rushes in with news of a fire in the storeroom, leaving everyone stunned.
