The episode opens with Jiang Chen, the second son of the Jiang family, plotting with his sister Jiang Ting to marry Jiang Xun's daughter, Jiang Tangtang, to the third, foolish son of the Zhao family in exchange for business benefits. Jiang Xun, despite his outwardly dissolute appearance, voices his opposition and protects his daughter. During a family meeting, as everyone discusses the matter, a ragged and abused Jiang Tangtang suddenly appears and publicly refuses the arranged marriage. With sharp words, she exposes the imprisonment and abuse she suffered at the hands of her uncle's family, denouncing them as unfit parents with the idiom "even tigers don't eat their cubs." After being stopped by her grandfather, Old Master Jiang, Jiang Tangtang kneels with perfect ancient etiquette and pleads with her grandfather to give her a different father, shocking everyone present.
