Princess Qin Xi confronts the top scholar Fu Ningyu, and the two reach an agreement to propose annulment of their engagement to the Emperor separately. Fu Ningyu is puzzled by Qin Xi's unusually straightforward attitude, finding her very different from before. They seal their promise with a pinky swear, agreeing not to go back on their word. However, that night, Qin Xi's personal maid Cui Ying sees a disheveled and pale Qin Xi in her room, mistaking her for a ghost in her terror, leaving a cliffhanger for the plot.
