After committing the crime, Alfred and his lover Kate decide to spare Lesley, Alfred's wife, believing her to be blind. However, Lesley, who had long since regained her sight, overhears their conversation and is filled with terror. To allay Alfred's suspicions, she cleverly pretends to have injured her head. Alfred feigns comfort and takes her to get bandaged, but Kate follows closely with a sharp knife. As Alfred tends to Lesley's wound, Kate presses the knife to Lesley's neck, plunging her into mortal peril.
