This episode's plot revolves around the protagonist Gu Nuannuan's "awakening" and counterattack. Gu Nuannuan stops pretending to be foolish and confesses to her mother, Su Minlan, that she had been enduring humiliation to gain the Gu family's favor. However, she now realizes that no matter how hard she tries, she cannot change their prejudice, and decides to rely on her mother's powerful maternal family (the Su family) as her support. The mother and daughter go to pay their respects to Old Madam Gu, and are verbally taunted by her for being late. Upon entering the room, Gu Nuannuan faces her stepsister, Gu Xiangyan, who is crying and feigning pity. Gu Nuannuan, no longer timid, publicly exposes Gu Xiangyan's hypocrisy, revealing that each time she cries, it's to demand her expensive possessions (hairpins, wolf-hair brushes, and fabrics), leaving Gu Xiangyan's false facade exposed.
