At an antique market, the male protagonist, He Tian, tries to stop the female protagonist, Han Xingwan, from buying a white jade hairpin. Han Xingwan and her assistant misunderstand He Tian's intentions, believing he is questioning the hairpin's authenticity, and mock him with their professional knowledge. He Tian clarifies that the hairpin is real, but he is trying to stop her from buying it to "save her life." This astonishing statement draws ridicule and disdain from everyone present, including the stall owner and onlookers, who assume He Tian is trying to swindle money or gain Han Xingwan's attention. Facing their scorn, Han Xingwan outright refuses He Tian's request for further proof and decides to purchase the jade hairpin.
