The episode opens with the protagonist Caroline receiving a call from her stepmother Joana at what appears to be a sanatorium or hospital. She's told she must marry immediately to secure her inheritance of her father's company, or her position will be jeopardized. After hanging up, Caroline sees an old woman drop her wallet and mistakenly believes she's a thief, shouting at her to stop. She picks up the wallet and returns it to the old woman, Nancy. This kind act leaves a deep impression on Nancy, who, unbeknownst to Caroline, is the grandmother of her future husband.
