This episode opens with Ling'er, the eldest daughter of the Gu family, the richest family in Jiangcheng, extending an invitation to the male protagonist, Lin Feng, who is considered a 'good-for-nothing' by his own family. She hopes he will become a retainer for the Gu family, stating that she sees potential in his future. After recalling the painful past of being humiliated and despised by his mother, Madam Lin, and his sister, Lin Qingxue, Lin Feng resolutely accepts Ling'er's proposal.
