Lin Lu apologizes to her attending physician, Jiang Yuxing, at the hospital. Jiang Yuxing mocks Lin Lu's current impoverished state, mentioning her mother's blindness and mental illness. The plot then flashes back six years to when Jiang Yuxing's mother, Madam Jiang, vehemently opposed their relationship. When Lin Lu refused to leave Jiang Yuxing, Madam Jiang hired thugs to brutally beat Lin Lu's family.
