This episode details the darkest moment in the life of Shangguan Yue, a royal daughter living in exile. Lin Muan, a newly appointed scholar, colludes with Li Deming, the magistrate of Qingshi County, and instigates the thug Wang Wu to frame Shangguan Yue for adultery, all in an effort to curry favor with the powerful Chen family. In court, Lin Muan hypocritically divorces his wife in public, while Li Deming disregards the law and sentences Shangguan Yue to the cruel punishment of "immersion in a pig cage." Chen Ze (Grandpa), her protector, desperately pleads for her life but is brutally beaten. Meanwhile, Shen Ling, an envoy from the Imperial Clan Court, races towards Qingshi County to find the missing princess (Shangguan Yue) before news of the emperor's death is leaked and to support her ascension to the throne.
