This episode takes place at the engagement banquet between the Xu and Chu families. The Xu family's stepmother and adopted daughter, Xu Mingyue, attempt to replace Xu Yuwei and marry into the Chu family using a stolen jade hairpin, the symbol of the engagement. Chu Tianyang, the head of the Chu family, arrives at the scene and not only sees through Xu Mingyue's impersonation at a glance, but also reveals that the engagement was not due to the families' power, but because Xu Yuwei's birth mother was Chu Tianyang's sworn sister. Chu Tianyang publicly humiliates the stepmother who rose to power through manipulation, returns the token to the true fiancée, Xu Yuwei, and takes her away. Before leaving, Xu Yuwei, with a domineering attitude of "speaking only when facing a dying opponent," retaliates against Xu Mingyue's provocation, completing a brilliant reversal of identity.
