Lin Yun declares Niubei Village as his fiefdom and the villagers his subjects, stating that no one else has the right to interfere, and forcibly dismisses the officers. Finally, Lin Yun sincerely apologizes to the villagers and vows to never again allow bandits to wreak havoc in the countryside.

This episode details Lin Yun's official arrival at Niubei Village as its lord. He attempts to win over the villagers with a speech, vowing to change the dire situation where "rich feasts rot while the poor starve." However, the villagers, long exploited by the Lin family, harbor deep hostility and suspicion towards him. In protest, they even transform his lord's mansion into a pigsty and collectively refuse to serve him. Unfazed by their resistance, Lin Yun, understanding that "great rewards attract brave men," offers ten taels of silver as a public reward for cleaning the mansion, marking his first step to break the deadlock and establish his authority.

Lin Yun quickly won the hearts of the villagers of Niubei Village with twenty taels of silver, establishing his initial prestige. Subsequently, despite the old village chief's dissuasion, he insisted on going to the desolate and foul-smelling Niubei Mountain, in reality to find the key raw material for making gunpowder - saltpeter, in order to open up a source of wealth. That night, Lin Yun and his three wives moved into their new residence. His primary wife, Wuyue, was gentle and virtuous, pledging her loyalty, while the resourceful second wife, Ye Wanqing, raised sharp doubts about his choice of wasteland and his bold declaration to "repay the debt in three years."
