Young master Huang Xiuwen of the Huang family takes a matchmaker to the Lin family to propose to Lin Xi'er, presenting the jade bracelet "The Other Shore" worth a thousand gold as a betrothal gift. Lin Xi'er politely declines, citing her elder brother Lin Yuanlong's absence and her own lack of interest in marriage. Lin's mother, Madam Xu, also refuses the proposal due to the significant disparity in family status and her daughter's young age. Huang Xiuwen bids farewell with apparent politeness and composure, but secretly rewards the matchmaker handsomely. The horrific scene before him ignites his fury, and the prelude to the story's revenge begins.

Through the words of his neighbor Auntie, Lin Yuanlong is shocked to learn that his sister Lin Xi'er was defiled by Huang Xiuwen, the county magistrate's son, and his mother, Madam Xu, was severely injured while trying to intervene. Meanwhile, Lin Yuanlong's subordinate, Ning Zhennan, receives intelligence at the Commander's Mansion about the humiliation of the great general's family in Luochen County. Enraged, he prepares to deploy troops. The scene then shifts to the yamen, where Madam Xu, having endured torture, defiantly refuses to yield in court, denouncing the corrupt officials and their son.
