Internationally renowned child psychologist Leah returns to Los Angeles after accepting an invitation from the powerful Silas Kingsley to treat his twin children. At the airport, Leah recalls the painful memories of losing her child six years ago. Later, at the Kingsley estate, she has a tense confrontation with her vicious estranged sister, Vera. Vera verbally provokes Leah and tries to slap her, but Leah retaliates. Just as Vera is certain that Silas will kick Leah out for being "incompetent," Silas appears with the twins, Leo and Lyla, who shockingly run up to Leah and affectionately call her "Mommy," leaving everyone present utterly stunned.
