At Wan Yu's funeral, lawyer Jiang Nan and the Wan family's illegitimate son Shi Jie engage in a forbidden romance in a room. A flashback reveals that Shi Jie, due to his "illegitimate son" status, suffered severe bullying from Wan Ling's mother, Cheng Mei, since childhood. Meanwhile, Wan Zhengming, the patriarch of the Wan family, announces that Shi Jie will be promoted to vice president of the group after the funeral. This move is overheard by Jiang Nan's ex-fiancé, Tan Peng, who realizes that Shi Jie will become a strong contender for the inheritance, and he hastily searches for Jiang Nan. Wan Ling, who came to visit Shi Jie on her father's orders, senses something amiss outside the door. She then discovers Jiang Nan's shoes inside the suite, exposing their secret relationship.
