Plot of Episode 2

Ningxia marries the poor but kind Xie Chengan against her parents' wishes. Wang the butcher, who had previously accepted a bride price, causes trouble at their home, forcing Xie Chengan to sign a promissory note. Ningxia's parents disown her and kick them out of the house. Upon arriving at Xie Chengan's home, Ningxia is deeply moved to see his seriously ill adoptive mother about to pawn a family heirloom to entertain her. Xie Chengan's adoptive mother also reveals that he possesses the only token for finding his birth parents – a jade pendant.
