In an awkward pool encounter, protagonist Emma discovers Zane Carter is her stepfather's son and her new stepbrother. Zane insults Emma's mother, Vanessa, calling her a "gold digger" and implying Emma is the same. Enraged, Emma shoves Zane into the pool, but falls in herself. A sex toy from her bag is exposed. Zane uses the toy to verbally humiliate Emma, taunting her with "always ready," and as they struggle in the water, the atmosphere becomes charged with ambiguous tension.
