Chen Xiaolong, seeking to climb the social ladder and marry into a wealthy family, lies to his wife Zhou Ling, claiming to be an orphan. He forces his birth mother, Qin Xiulan, who has come to the city to find him, to pretend to be "Auntie Qin." Zhou Ling, looking down on Qin Xiulan as a "country bumpkin," even demands that Qin Xiulan work as a maid in their home after their nanny quits. Chen Xiaolong not only fails to object but privately berates his mother, sternly warning her not to reveal her true identity. The episode uses flashbacks to contrast Chen Xiaolong's past vow to repay his mother's kindness with his current unfilial behavior, highlighting the irony. At the end, as Walker Group chairman Mu Tianchen inspects the area, he unexpectedly recognizes his impoverished godmother, Qin Xiulan, by the roadside, marking a significant turning point in the story.
