Qin Xiulan visits her son Chen Xiaolong in the city with local specialties, only to be scorned by him and asked to wear shoe covers to avoid dirtying the floor. Mu Tianchen's wife, Mu Xue, happens to be present and shows great respect for her godmother, Qin Xiulan, highlighting Xiaolong's hypocrisy. When Xiaolong's wife, Zhou Ling, and her snobbish mother return home, Xiaolong, in his pursuit of power, lies and claims his own mother is the new nanny. Dian Dian (the grandson) is close to his grandmother, but is roughly pulled away by Zhou Ling's mother. Zhou Ling's mother not only verbally insults Qin Xiulan, calling her "low class," but also finds her dirty and sprays her with disinfectant, even punishing her by sending her to the balcony to "air out" and prepare dinner. Qin Xiulan endures all this humiliation with tears for her son's future.
