The episode opens with Lu Xiao, a young Taoist apprentice, complaining after being punished by his senior sister, Su Yue. An old woman arrives with her critically ill grandson, seeking medical help as doctors in the town have given up. Daoist Master Chu Xin diagnoses the child with a terminal illness and, citing the extremely high risks associated with the "Nine Revolving Needles" treatment, claims he is too old to undertake the procedure. As the old woman desperately pleads on her knees, Su Yue, whom her master calls a gifted disciple, steps forward. She volunteers to attempt the risky treatment, despite her master's stern warning that the consequences could be dire and irreversible.
