In a desolate wilderness, Su Nian and Cheng Ye encounter a giant ant, which Cheng Ye dismisses and kills. Suddenly, Su Nian's ex-boyfriend, Gu Huaizhou, appears and sternly warns them that they have killed a "scout" of carnivorous ants. He explains that its death will release pheromones, attracting the entire colony and putting everyone in danger. Su Nian, believing Gu Huaizhou to be cowardly and alarmist, publicly shames him and breaks up with him, choosing to be with Cheng Ye, whom she considers more "manly." As Su Nian and Cheng Ye leave, and Gu Huaizhou worries alone, strange noises echo from the jungle, signaling an impending crisis.
