Qin Tang, having transmigrated as the Empress of the Great Xuan Dynasty, meets the Emperor (actually Prince Xiao Sheng of Qinghe) and his favorite concubine, Hua Ruier, at a banquet for the first time. Viewing them through a modern lens, Qin Tang ruthlessly mocks the pair and attempts a physical assault by releasing a sleeping agent during her dance. When that fails, she resorts to a magical attack using poisoned wine. She attempts to seduce Xiao Sheng, only to have him turn the tables and force her to drink. In a desperate move, she tries to feed him the poison mouth-to-mouth, but discovers that Xiao Sheng possesses the imperial family’s ancestral immunity to all poisons. With her plan in total ruins, Qin Tang realizes her intelligence was flawed, while a murderous Xiao Sheng prepares to take her life right there.
