The episode opens with the patriarch of the Zhan family, Zhan Yunsheng, showing concern for his grandson Zhan Xiaoye's health and instructing his son, Zhan Sihang, and his wife, to treat their newly adopted granddaughter, Xiao Duoyu, kindly. He then reveals a painful family history to his son: the eldest son, Zhan Siyan, disappeared ten years ago, dealing a severe blow to the matriarch, Huo Jingtang, who has been paralyzed ever since. Meanwhile, in the Buddhist hall, the matriarch is repenting for her past "slaughter," believing that all the family's misfortunes stem from her. Zhan Sihang's family comes to visit, and the innocent and lively Xiao Duoyu seems to bring a glimmer of comfort to her somber grandmother. However, the sudden arrival of the second master, Zhan Yuxuan, shatters this fleeting warmth, casting an unsettling shadow over the plot.
