Inside a luxurious banquet hall, the newly appointed top scholar, Zhang Xi, brings his simply dressed father, Zhang Yuanyue. Guests whisper and mock Zhang Yuanyue for his disheveled appearance, likening him to a "junk collector." Despite feeling embarrassed, Zhang Xi defends his father. However, his Uncle Zhang at the same table not only insults Zhang Yuanyue's humble status, deeming him unworthy of a main seat, but also rudely demands he sit at the very end. Zhang Xi attempts to reason with him, but his Uncle Zhang escalates his scolding and slams the table, threateningly, pushing the conflict to the brink.
