Teacher Lin visits student Zhang Xi to congratulate him on becoming the top scorer in the college entrance examination in Sihai City. However, amidst her congratulations, she excessively mocks Zhang Xi's father, Zhang Yuanyue. She despises the Zhang family's poverty and Zhang Yuanyue's worn-out clothes, believing Zhang Xi's success has nothing to do with his father. She even accuses Zhang Yuanyue of irresponsibility for giving his son only two thousand yuan for living expenses and making him responsible for his own meals before the college entrance examination. Zhang Yuanyue retorts with the idea that an eighteen or nineteen-year-old "has hands and feet," criticizing this type of doting education. Ignoring Zhang Yuanyue's objections, Teacher Lin insists on holding a grand "Top Scorer Banquet" to publicize her contributions and bring honor to the Zhang family.
