The episode opens in the Chen Dynasty court, where the Second Prince Qin Hao accuses his elder sister, Princess Qin Xi, of three crimes: forcefully marrying the top scholar, tarnishing the royal family's reputation, and endangering the state as a "demonic woman of a fallen kingdom." He presents a cloth strip found in a fish's belly as evidence of "heaven's will," intending to seize control of the Dali Temple. Princess Qin Xi calmly counters each accusation. She first calls upon the top scholar, Fu Ningyu, to clarify in court that their union was consensual. Then, she attributes her unrestrained behavior to missing her deceased mother. Finally, she skillfully turns the "heaven's will" argument back on him, declaring herself to be a destined figure meant to revitalize the kingdom, thus averting the crisis.
