The episode opens with Princess Xie Youwei, who possesses precognitive abilities, revealing to her adoptive father, Prince Xian Xie Zhixun, that Crown Prince Xie Yunzheng is destined for misfortune, while Prince Xian himself has the makings of an emperor. Prince Xian cautions her to speak with discretion. The scene then shifts to a palace banquet, where Emperor Yuanshuo arrives. The Crown Prince presents Xie Jingshu, a false "Fortune Girl" who has been impersonated, intending to claim credit. Just as the Emperor lavishes praise on the fake Fortune Girl, an urgent military dispatch arrives from the border, reporting "A severe drought in Nancheng, with scorched earth for a thousand miles." This stark contrast to the auspicious claims brought by the Fortune Girl instantly escalates the tension and sets the stage for future conflicts.
