At a family gathering, Qian Xiaomei presents her father, Qian Shouli, with a "thousand-year-old ginseng" valued at ten million as a birthday gift. However, she is collectively ridiculed by her brother Qian Yupeng, sister-in-law Liu Feng, and neighbors, who dismiss it as a mere rotten radish. Qian Yupeng even wagers that he will bark like a dog if it turns out to be real ginseng, and proceeds to stomp on it. Amidst the public humiliation and distrust, only her granddaughter Li Yue seems to discern the ginseng's authenticity. In the end, her father, Qian Shouli, is enraged and slaps Qian Xiaomei in front of everyone, angrily accusing her of causing her husband's death and intending to harm him.
