At the fire station, Edith Blair suddenly serves her husband, Nolan Blair, with divorce papers prepared by her lawyer. Nolan initially dismisses the move as a joke, then shifts to sarcasm, accusing Edith of trying to walk away after draining the Blair family fortune. Fighting back tears, Edith reveals the bitterness of being neglected for three years and declares that she has completely given up on their marriage. Just as she prepares to leave, Nolan receives an urgent call: his father has suffered a heart attack. This sudden emergency plunges the estranged couple into a new crisis and fresh entanglement.
