On her wedding day, the female protagonist Bai Luning, who had just married into the Ning Princely Manor, got into a fierce conflict with her stepmother, Mrs. Liu, and her father, Bai Yihong, who had come to make trouble, because her maid Cui Liu wanted her to get some fresh air. Mrs. Liu accused Bai Luning of lacking proper etiquette, but Bai Luning sharply countered, asserting her position as the Princess Consort of Ning and the mistress of the manor. An enraged Bai Yihong ordered a studded plank to be brought out, intending to punish Bai Luning with family law and force her to kneel. As servants forcibly held her down, Bai Luning loudly declared her identity as the "Princess Consort of Ning," shocking everyone present and bringing the conflict to its peak.
