Late at night, Ding Changsheng witnesses a "car accident" on a mountain. Initially, he mistakes Tian Erru, the wife of old man Huo from the village, for having an illicit affair and peeks, making light of the situation. However, the situation inside the car takes a sudden turn. Yang Fengqi, the woman, due to the tightly shut car windows, causes Kou Dapeng to suffocate and lose consciousness, while being pinned by his body. She cries out for help. After rescuing them both, Ding Changsheng is shocked to realize that the man is Kou Dapeng, the powerful son-in-law of the county magistrate and a major mine owner. Realizing he has stumbled upon a powerful figure's illicit affair, Ding Changsheng feels impending doom and tries to slip away, only to be stopped by the awakened Kou Dapeng. Facing questions that feel like death threats, Ding Changsheng quickly fabricates a lie about his fish pond collapsing and being suicidal to try and escape.
